41 Day 35 – End of an Era

Todays image is quite different to the usual posts of late and shows the end of an era. Hinckley College has stood for many years and infact some of the older buildings that you can see in the photos date from 1809 when the cottage hospital was built. Since then the  more modern buildings have been added but now the sands of time have ran out for the site as it is demolished to make way for a new housing estate. Its quite sad to see it torn down as I have spent many evenings at the college studying various subjects and a group of local historians did try to save the older buildings but without success, it seems houses are more valuable than education!

  1. Poignant picture and text cataloguing the loss of a local amenity. Whether this is progress I am not so sure.
